I've been a lover of nature and the outdoors for a long time, so this wasn't the first time that I've seen Killdeer eggs, or a Killdeer doing a broken wing display. It is however the first time that I've ever seen a Killdeer actually sitting on it's nest. It was just one of those lucky accidents, but I'm happy that I had my camera and was able to gets some video of it. It's always amazed me that they are able to lay eggs on the ground and then be able to raise their babies without predators getting them most of the time. The broken wing display is something that they do to try to lure you away from their nests. The first time you see it, it's hard not to think that there is something "wrong" with the bird. @michaelsimko76944 years ago I live in a shoreline city in the northeast that has a large shoreline park where killdeer are common. There' s a number of nesting sites that are used calls during the early morning twilight are almost like an alarm going off telling the gulls and other birds to get up.
some might find killdeer to be annoying due to how noisy they can be, but i enjoy their calls and find their personality silly, cute, adorable, and charming
